Project Description

Dr. Jianhua Zhang and Dr. Chunlei Liang are collaborating on an integrated wind power research project that couples computer-verified turbine design with campus-scale grid validation. The project leverages advanced computational fluid dynamics, high-order large eddy simulation, and aerodynamic optimization to develop high-performance ducted wind turbine designs whose efficiency and structural robustness are verified numerically prior to deployment. These optimized designs are then evaluated through integration with Clarkson University’s behind-the-meter campus power grid, enabling direct validation using real-world electricity generation and operational data. By closing the loop between high-fidelity computational design and campus-level power system testing, the project establishes a unique platform for accelerating wind energy innovation and de-risking next-generation distributed energy technologies.
