Project Description

Many algorithms exist in order to calculate optical flow, which is “the distribution of apparent velocities of movement of brightness patterns in an image. Optical flow can arise from relative motion of objects and the viewer.” The goal of this project is to find a method to calculate velocity in real time from optical flow data.

Some Python code exists from previous work undertaken in this research. The task of the project group will be to develop code and create an app (browser plug-in, mobile app, stand-alone app) that can take videos as real-time input and provide velocity information for objects in the video.

Deliverables include code, update presentations in weekly group meetings, final report, and presentation at RAPS.
